Muzzloader Doe
~ Tim Portz (1/4/2006 @ 9:57 AM)

This is me and pops.

This was an improbable hunt. We had done our normal drive and had come up empty. Instead of just packing it in, we decided to hang out, drink some schnapps, and see what happened. This doe was with two other deer and were walking along a cow path across a snow covered pasture. She passed by our position about 110 yards out and I put the bead on the top of her neck where her neck met her body. As soon as I touched the trigger she crumpled to the ground. We skinned her out and butchered her ourselves and I have to say the deer in Iowa aren't struggling to find food. This doe had good fat deposits on her hindquarters and in front of her back legs. I'm having her hide tanned which is something I've never done before so that should be interesting.
