2007 fishing
~ Kenny Johnson (11/30/2007 @ 10:51 AM)

Just starting out

On August 22 I took my son, Nolan, fishing on the big lake (Superior). We had done our time fishing from the docks and small inland lakes, catching our share of small bass and pan fish. He informed me that he wanted to catch big fish.

It was a beautiful warm evening and we headed out to location X and set out our lines to troll. The first fish he caught was an 18 inch walleye, which was to become supper. Soon after, he followed up with a very large bass and two 29 inch walleye. We returned both of the larger walleye to the lake as they were probably breeding females. Needless to say he had a ball and is forever hooked on fishing.

One final note, I found that my son is unable to lie. Upon our return to the dock, we saw some fishermen that had been in the same area we were fishing. I told Nolan not to say anything about the fish we caught as word spreads fast in this area and there would be dozens of boats in that spot the next day. When we were asked if we caught anything, I replied "Just a bass". My son quickly followed up with, "Dad, can we get the walleye out of the livewell now?" I then had to own up to the walleye I had been hiding.

Came across this journal in the featured journals space. Nolan is probably itching to get back in the boat to try his luck at some more fish!
