Lake Michigan Salmon Fishing
~ Nic Dittbrenner (8/21/2006 @ 9:13 PM)

Battling Away....Notice the tip is Up!

Lambie and I made our annual trip over to fish with his Uncle Al. We both arrived late Friday night, and hit the hay in anticipation for the first day of fishing.

We woke up at 4am, got our stuff packed up and headed for the marina. There was a bass tournament the same weekend, so when we arrived at the marina, it was packed. We launched and headed out. We started fishing on the bank; basically a large reef intermixed with different cover that attracts the baitfish, which in turn attracts the salmon. The salmon mostly feed on alewives and smelt. We hooked into our first fish around 6:00; a nice 10lber. We fished anywhere from 150ft out to 250ft. Towards midmorning everyone seemed to go towards the deeper water; the water temp was so warm that a lot of fish were heading deeper. We did fairly well out in 240ft of water. Around 11:00 we had caught 11 fish, but it was starting to slow down a little, so we decided to head it in. Lambie had top honors for the day with a healthy 15lb female. Compared to other boats out there, we did really well.

That afternoon, Lambie and I played 22 holes of golf and drank 22 beers. Somebody got a little drunk out on the course....I don't want to point fingers, but I can tell you that it wasn't Lambie.

Day 2
We woke up at 4 again and headed out to the same spot. Right away we hooked up with 4 fish, but then it was pretty slow for the rest of the morning. We picked up 4 more to finish with 8 for the day. Top honors went to myself with another 15lb beauty.

Another great year of fishing....Al Lambie is on his game. If you ever get a chance to wrestle a Salmon abord the Sportsman, remember......Keep your Fucking Tip Up....--Al Lambie--
