FF&F Weekend
~ Dean Olejniczak (10/12/2008 @ 5:37 PM)

Just got back from a great weekend and a nice short story of the fish that DIDN'T get away.

Last day, last few minutes before we had to start packing up for the drive home and had already worked 4 spots with the same lure. Should I change up? Should I change the retrieve from jerk, jerk reel to a fast retrieve? Bill had a hit on his go too lure already but no fish in the boat. I had a hit on the west shore bay in about 8' of water but again, nothing. Nope, stay with the retrieve speed and work that baby like a $6 hooker. WAMMO - FISH ON! 4 good runs and my new investment (with spousel permission - kind off) worked like it should. The photo make the fish look HUGE however it measured 37". The great news is this; that fish was extremely healthy and firm. She felt like the dash board of your car and was thick - a good 3" - 4" across the back. Very nice fish and a good not for future fishing. The bigging of a cold front coming directly from the west was just starting to blow in cold air with clouds overhead. I was using a heavy white jig with 6" tail and wobble blade that creates awesome action. I left the lure sink in the deep water to a count of 10 and in the shallows it worked well around the weeds.

It is so good to see the size of muskie in that lake! Just think next year, it would not surprise me to see a 44" in there!

Cheers!

Nice fish Deano, the picture does make it look like 50+. It was a great one hour outing.
