2005 Doe Droppings
~ Adam Wood (11/23/2005 @ 1:17 PM)
This year was much the same at the Wood Cabin deer camp. My dad, Kevin, his son Mike, and I all got to deer camp around noon on Friday. The first thing to do is open a beer and lay out the orange. With most of our deck covered in orange we decided to go check the stands. As this is our third year at our place we decided it was about time to set-up five or six stands to leave up. This way we all had some options. That damn hill is no fun to climb over and over.

The first day we saw seven deer on our stands but no one took a shot. Them son - of - a - bit#$!& are hard to see in the thicket! I was fairly sure that I knew where the deer would be the following morning so I set out to push them to an area I knew I could get a shot. Sure enough, before first light I kicked 5 deerses out of the nutch. I stayed still till there was light and followed after one.

If you know our land you will know that if a deer heads up the northern ridge it has no chance of escape - 500 yards up hill in downed tree tops is slow going. So I saw a deer making its way along the hill, settled down and took aim. 3 shots later I had killed yet another doe. This beauty was shot at about 250 yards.

Maybe some day I will get a buck.

Total deer seen in camp: 21
Total shots (at deer) in Camp: 11
Total deer taken: 1

By the way, this doe didn't look so hot so no picture was taken. Hmmm.....
