Bowhunting on 12-13-05
~ Nic Dittbrenner (12/13/2005 @ 9:58 PM)
Not a lot of time to bowhunt left yet, and I was close to my Uncles, so I thought I would try and get out. Finally got done with a meeting at 3:45...not much time to bowhunt.

I was able to make it out to my stand and set up by 4:15, so I only had about a half hour. About 20 to 5 I heard something behind me..a red fox was skirting the bond behind me. He came right under my stand and then hurried off to the west.

Not more than 2 minutes later, two does headed my way. I had planned to shoot a doe if given the opportunity, so I had my bow ready for the shot. Just as they started to get into bow range, they crossed where the red fox had just crossed the path. The lead doe immediately became fidgety and then ran about 15 yards back the way she came. The other one followed, but decided not to stop..that was the end of that.

I decided to call it a night. As I was lowering my bow down to the ground, I caught movement of two deer back to the west. I sat on the stand and let them continue on their way. Couldn't tell what they were.

On the way back to my Uncle's, I counted 18 deer in one little alfalfa field...go figure.

Well, almost had a shot..until next time. --Sorry, no photos, forgot the camera--
