My son's first duck hunt with family
~ Dean Olejniczak (11/10/2009 @ 5:11 PM)

It's hard to put in words the feeling you have when your son enjoys the outdoors as much as you by choice, not just because you do but that is the relationship I have with my son Ross. His "Uncle Mike" truely his cousin asked us to hunt in North Dakota a year ago it seems and I jumped at the chance. Having hunted ducks all over the state of Wisconsin but hanging up the waders to take care of children for the past 10 years has had it's toll. We left our home in Neenah Wisconsin with enough gear for 10 men and more ammo then a search and destroy squardron of marines. As we headed down the road, Ross asked questions and vocalized his excitment for the next 5 hours as we drove to Eagan Minnesota to meet up with the crew. We met at Mike Lauensteins home and loaded up 1,500 dozen full body magnum sized decoys into my 12 foot trailer with ATV. Well, we really didn't have 1,500 dozen but it sure felt like it as we split atoms to fit them into the trailer. The cool part was that these dec's were in new bags that have never seen the outside of a Cabela's store except for the ride home. Virgin dec's with a virgin hunter on a virgin trip to North Dakota; more virgins then a jehadist suicide bomber on the day of his demise. Once loaded, we had decided to leave the next morning but the excitment had us thinking of leaving that minute. We meet at 5:15AM with Nik, Matt and Adam for the morning fuel for human and vehicle and off we go. The green flag was waived and the drafting started right out of the gate. Our average cruise speed of 80+ miles per hour wasn't enough after 4 hours into our 6 hour trip and Jim Hayes decided to leave us lesser gifted of horse power and tickle the triple digits in MPH. No worries, after we caught up 90 minutes later we found out that Jim was dialated to 12 cm and needed to find a spot.....................NOW!!!!! :-) We got to our destination and got ourselves settled in. The accomodations were outstanding with laundry, 3 floors, 4 private bedrooms, 2 showers, 6 beds, living room, dining room, full stocked kitchen and plenty of room for after the hunt. See Nic's recap of the play by play of the hunt but when you can, check out the photo's.

Ross thinks that this is so cool. A good friend; Brad Siontek, loaned Ross and I layout blinds. Yep, we will be getting them for next years hunt

Uncle Bill and Ross return with an ATV loaded with Mallards. I would say the the term "Baptism by Fire" fits this photo for Ross's first duck hunt

Glad you guys were able to make it! One heck of a way to start a duck hunting career; I'll bet Ross is hooked for life.
