Devils Lake Ice Fishing
~ Chris Lambie (3/6/2007 @ 11:22 AM)

We started off strong

Well, the Perch were jumbo, the walleye were present, and the Pike were big. On the other hand, the Perch were few, the Walleye were small, and the Pike were...well, Pike.

The fish could have, and normally is better. I'm not too sure of the final count, someone will have to help me with that, but it was nothing to write home about.

Mike seemed to have enjoyed himself (especially Sat. morning) and that's whats counts. I hope everyony that came at least realized the potential when they saw their first jumbo perch. The bellies on these things are just phenominal. It's just too bad we saw so few of them. I don't know what everyone else thinks but I have to attribute it to the drastic weather we had. We were in the middle of a front that moved through the area and drastic changes in weather don't normally make for good fishing.

I personally enjoyed myself. There is not much I'd rather be doing that ice fishing with good friends. I think I'd rather be on the ice with friends than vacationing at the Playboy mansion (I really debated this one).

Anyway, I'm for sure goig back there...but I'm taking the train next time. 12 hours in a car with Spaeth, Mudflap, and myself start spawning some conversations that I wouldn't even repeat in a biker bar.

But then the weather moved in

We started getting bored so we decided to catch some Pike. This idea saved the trip.

The biggest of the trip? Mudflap pulls out a hog. Nice fish!

A little idea of what 45 mph winds can do to 2 ft of snow.

It also makes it very painful to pee.

But believe me it was nice and warm inside the ice castles.

Sometimes it got lonley in there.

Trust me we hardly drank the whole trip. The propane fumes just put us right to sleep.

Speath was the littlest guy in our shack so the fumes hit him first. Nic and I made it through because our bodies can absorb a few more therms of propane exhaust than the rest of em'.

There is such thing as a 2nd wind.

I got nothing to say about this picture...other than my God does it smell in here.
